Location-based Service (LBS) applications use of information about the whereabouts of the wireless or mobile device is located, with that device usually being directly connected to or associated with a human or physical asset.

Wireless devices may be fixed or mobile. They include, but are not limited to, wireless phones, laptops, portable navigation devices, and embedded systems. Amassed with location identification are a host of functions ranging from marketing and payments, safety and security, and social networking and local business search.
